Home inventory app

A home inventory app that remembers what you own

Hanory helps you build a home inventory one room at a time. Each item gets its brand, model, serial number, purchase date, price, photos, receipts and warranty in a single record you can search, update and export when a repair, a move or an insurance question comes up.

Free plan · No card required · Private by default

A home inventory you will actually keep up to date

Spreadsheets and photo folders tend to go stale. Hanory keeps each item's details, documents and history together, so updating the record takes seconds.

Every item clearly identified

Record name, category, brand, model, room, serial number, purchase date and price, and whether the item is in use, at service, stored or sold.

Photos and receipts attached

Upload photos of the item and its serial label, along with receipts, manuals and warranty cards. Files stay in private storage, linked to the right product.

Ready for moves, repairs and insurance

Pull up a model number during a support call, check what goes into the moving truck, or export your list as PDF, CSV or JSON to keep a copy elsewhere.

Build your home inventory in three steps

Pick a room

Start where the valuable things are, such as the living room or home office. A name and category are enough to create an item.

Add the details that matter

Fill in brand, model, serial number and purchase price, then attach a photo and the receipt. Missing details can be added later.

Keep it current

Add new purchases as they arrive, log repairs as maintenance records and mark items as sold when they leave your home.

Your inventory stays private

A home inventory describes what you own and where it is kept. Hanory is built so that information stays yours, and you can take a full copy of your records with you at any time.

Start free. Upgrade only if you need more.

The free plan includes one home, unlimited products, bills and subscriptions, 25 documents or photos, and backup and export. Hanory Plus adds unlimited homes, such as a vacation home or office, and unlimited documents. Your first Plus purchase comes with a 14-day refund, and payments are processed by Paddle as merchant of record.

How to create a useful home inventory

A home inventory is an organized record of your important belongings: what they are, where they are kept, what they cost and the documents that identify them. A useful inventory is not perfect on day one. It is the one that is easy enough to maintain that it is still accurate a year from now.

Short answer: Work room by room and start with high-value items. For each one, record a clear name, a photo, brand and model, serial number, purchase date, price and the receipt. Then update the list whenever you buy, repair or get rid of something.

Why keep a home inventory?

A home inventory saves time in ordinary situations. It helps you find a model number during a repair, remember when an appliance was last serviced, check that everything arrived after a move and know which warranty is about to run out.

It can also give you an organized starting point if you ever need to describe lost or damaged belongings to an insurer. A personal record does not guarantee that a claim will be accepted, so check your policy and ask your insurer what evidence they expect. Our guide to a home inventory for insurance claims covers that in more detail.

What should each record contain?

  • Item name, category and room
  • Brand, model and serial number
  • Purchase date, seller and price (Hanory currently records prices in USD, EUR or TRY)
  • Receipt or other proof of purchase
  • Photos of the item and its identification label
  • Warranty end date
  • Maintenance and repair history

A sustainable room-by-room process

Start with priority items

Begin with computers, phones, televisions, major appliances, air conditioners, game consoles, cameras and bicycles. These are the items you are most likely to repair, insure or need details for. Cataloging every mug and towel on day one makes the job harder to finish.

Finish one room at a time

Move through the living room, kitchen, bedrooms, home office, garage and storage spaces in a set order. Completing one room gives you a usable result quickly, and you can fill in missing serial numbers or prices on a later pass instead of abandoning an unfinished list.

Photograph labels while you are there

Serial numbers are often printed on the back, underside or inside the door of a device. Take a photo of the label while the item is easy to reach, especially before a TV is wall-mounted or a washer is pushed into place.

Keep documents with the item

Attach receipts, manuals, warranty cards and service invoices to the product they belong to rather than leaving them in a separate folder. When you need the purchase date, it is right beside the model and serial number.

When should you update it?

Update the record when you buy, repair, move, sell or throw away an item. A short room-by-room review once a year, or when your insurance policy renews, is usually enough to catch anything you missed. Export a copy after big changes so a current version lives outside your home.

Common home inventory mistakes

  • Trying to catalog everything in a single weekend
  • Skipping serial numbers and proof of purchase
  • Confusing purchase price with current value
  • Adding up different currencies without a verified exchange rate
  • Keeping the only copy of the list inside the house it describes
  • Never updating the list after the first round

Frequently asked questions

Is the Hanory home inventory app free?

Yes. The free plan covers one home with unlimited products and 25 documents or photos, plus backup and export. Hanory Plus adds unlimited homes and documents; see pricing.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. You can sign up and build your inventory without entering any card details.

Is there an iPhone or Android app?

Hanory is a web app, not a native app. You can install it to your phone's home screen from the browser as a progressive web app (PWA), which makes it easy to add items while you walk through each room.

Do you scan receipts or recognize items from photos?

No. Hanory does not scan receipts or identify items automatically. You upload photos or PDFs and type in the details you want to keep.

Can I export my home inventory?

Yes. You can export your records as JSON, CSV or PDF on every plan, which is useful for keeping a backup copy outside your home.

Will my inventory guarantee an insurance payout?

No. A home inventory can help you document what you owned, but your policy and insurer decide what is covered. Ask your insurer what records they expect.
